The Ohio State Buckeyes won in style when they absolutely crushed Bowling Green at home to start the season.

If you thought Ohio State would take a step back after losing 15 of their starters, you thought wrong. Five Ohio State players were taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, which is a testament to how well run that program is. While it’s crazy to expect that again from them this year, this roster is capable of producing a lot of high end draft prospects.

The first of which is J.T. Barrett, who was responsible for seven Ohio State TDs against Bowling Green. He passed for six and rushed for one, which ties a record:

He was so efficient, that Urban Meyer didn’t wait until the fourth quarter to sit him – but the offense didn’t stop when he was pulled. Once his day was finished, freshman Joe Burrow made his debut, while Ohio State added four more touchdowns en route to a 77-10 win. They totaled 776 offensive yards, which shattered their previous record:

Their previous record was 718 yards against Mount Union back in 1930.

The Buckeyes have a tough schedule to navigate through this year, but if this game was any indication, their offense hasn’t missed a beat. The most impressive receiver was Curtis Samuel, who had three touchdowns, with one coming on the ground. He figures to be the same go-to guy that Michael Thomas and Darron Lee were in seasons past.

Michigan fans may be skeptical, and say that Bowling Green is a punching bag. But at the same time, Hawaii was hardly a tough test. For those two programs, however, taking care of business against lower-tier opponents like this is vital. After Michigan State hardly got past Furman, there were plenty of questions surrounding them, and convincing wins like this can help avoid those.

Now they’re hoping to pile on the misery for Oklahoma and win in their campus in two weeks’ time.
