Here’s everything you need to know about watching Arkansas take on Louisiana Tech during Week 1 of the 2016 college football season.
The Arkansas Razorbacks kick off their 2016 college football season on Saturday, as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs head to Razorback Stadium. The Razorbacks are a heavy favorite against the Bulldogs, who will be without expected starting quarterback, Ryan Higgins. Higgins was arrested and charged with a DWI in August, and he will not start on Saturday.
Instead, the Bulldogs will turn to a redshirt freshman to get the job done. J’Mar Smith was named by Bulldogs’ head coach Skip Holtz as the team’s starter for Saturday, though Higgins is expected to play. Smith will have the luxury of throwing to two of the best wide receivers in Conference USA, as Trent Taylor and Carlos Hernandez combined for over 2,000 yards receiving in 2015.
Arkansas will counter with a familiar last name under center. Austin Allen, the team’s backup in 2015, will be replacing his brother Brandon as the starter for the Razorbacks. Brandon threw for over 3,400 yards in 2015, tossing 30 touchdowns. He is currently a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
One player on the Razorbacks defense to keep an eye on is McTelvin “Sosa” Agim, who is one of the biggest recruits in recent memory for Arkansas. Agim turned some heads during the team’s Red-White scrimmage, and appears ready to dominate at the Division I level. He is one of the top true freshman players in the SEC.
