The Mississippi State Bulldogs suffer a crushing one-point loss to the South Alabama Jaguars. Here’s how Twitter handled this Mississippi State home loss.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs were dealt a surprising one-point loss at home in Week 1 to the Sun Belt’s South Alabama Jaguars, 21-20. South Alabama won at Davis Wade Stadium as the Bulldogs missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired.
Mississippi State was expected to take a step back in 2016 after star quarterback Dak Prescott graduated to the NFL, but few thought a loss to a decent mid-major school like South Alabama was in the mix for the Bulldogs.
With Mississippi State now needing three SEC wins to get to a bowl game, this loss to the Jaguars could prove costly for Dan Mullen and his SEC West team. Here is how Twitter handled the surprising home loss of the Bulldogs against the Jaguars.
I dare an SEC team to lose or struggle against Mississippi State and say they deserve to be in the playoff.

Overall, Twitter has lost a ton of respect for Mississippi State as a football program. People realize that it was going to be a down year with Prescott at quarterback, but few though South Alabama was actually going to beat them at home on a shanked field goal attempt.

It wasn’t just pure shade being thrown at the Bulldogs, but it was often coupled with Oklahoma’s loss to Houston or Tennessee’s near loss to Appalachian State on Thursday night. This was a win that the Bulldogs needed to build their bowl resume. Now Mullen will have his work cut out for his team to get to .500 at 6-6 this fall.
