The Missouri Tigers will face a tough Week 1 opponent on the road versus the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday, Sept. 3 in Morgantown.
Sept. 3rd will be the first fall Saturday of the 2016 college football season. With so many games on the slate, here’s one matchup between two Power 5 schools that could be interesting: The SEC’s Missouri Tigers traveling to Morgantown to take on the Big 12’s West Virginia Mountaineers.
FS1 will air the intriguing Power 5 matchup at 12:00 PM ET, while the live stream will be available on the Fox Sports Go app. Dana Holgorsen’s Mountaineers will be a 10-point home favorite versus Barry Odom’s rebuilding Tigers program.
This will be Holgorsen’s sixth season at West Virginia. He has gone 36-28 in five years with the Mountaineers, and hopes to build on last year’s 8-5 (4-5) campaign. Odom takes over for Gary Pinkel at Missouri. The Tigers stumbled in 2015, going 5-7 (1-7) after winning back-to-back SEC East Division Championships.
West Virginia will enter the 2016 season in the middle of the pack of the Big 12. The Oklahoma Sooners, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the TCU Horned Frogs, and even the Baylor Bears might be better than West Virginia.
The Mountaineers should still outpace the Kansas Jayhawks and Iowa State Cyclones, however. When all is said and done, WVU will likely find itself in the middle of the pack, along with the Kansas State Wildcats, Texas Longhorns, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
The Tigers probably won’t finish better than fourth in the SEC East behind the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, and Tennessee Volunteers. How it plays against the Kentucky Wildcats, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Vanderbilt Commodores will likely decide if Missouri is going to a bowl.
Date: Saturday, Sept. 3.
Time: 12:00 PM ET
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Stadium: Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium
