Nebraska honors Sam Foltz with a Delay of Game (Video)

The Nebraska football team lost their punter this past offseason, as Sam Foltz passed away in a car accident. They made sure to honor him Saturday.

The opening weekend of college football brings so much excitement and joy to so many. It is the start of something new for thousands of collegiate football players, and millions of fans. For the Nebraska football program, there was a big hole missing in their roster.

During the off season, punter Sam Foltz was killed in a car accident. He and Mike Sadler, a former punter for Michigan State, had traveled to Wisconsin to work a punting camp. Foltz and Sadler both passed away, with Foltz being declared dead at the scene.

It was a horrifying example of real life being more important than sports. The outpouring of support for the fallen men reached far beyond the campuses in Michigan and Nebraska. For Nebraska, they wanted to do something to honor their late punter, and did they ever.

When the punting unit went out for their first punt of the season, only ten players ran on the field. The team ended up taking a delay of game, and the university tweeted out why.
