Oklahoma Sooners running back Joe Mixon is having a strong start to his season with an epic touchdown run against Houston.

The Oklahoma Sooners got a huge lift last season from freshman sensation Joe Mixon. Mixon ran for 753 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He added 356 receiving yards and four touchdowns for a total of 1,109 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Entering 2016, the Sooners are hoping that Mixon plays a bigger role in their offense as a sophomore. He is certainly doing that as he got an epic touchdown run against the Houston Cougars.

Mixon showed a lot of impressive things during that 32 yard run. He could have been stopped early on but exploded through a hole. Mixon’s patience and timing are important parts of his game. Credit the Sooners offensive line for being perfectly in sync with Mixon and creating that hole for him.

The sophomore running back made multiple guys miss tackles and showed that he has great finishing speed. He’s a dangerous threat whenever he touches the ball. The Sooners would love to see more plays like this from their dynamic sophomore running back.

Mixon also added a long reception he almost took to the house on the next possession.

Oklahoma is relying heavily on their talented backfield duo of Mixon and junior running back Samaje Perine to carry their offense this season. Perine has 3,062 rushing yards and 37 rushing touchdowns in his first two seasons with the Sooners. Mixon brings an element of athleticism to the table while the junior Perine is a more traditional running back. Perine struggles as a receiver while Mixon thrives as one.

With a dangerous two-headed running game and an excellent defense, the Sooners could be in for a huge year in 2016. A lot of their success relies on Mixon and Perine continuing to be dominant.
