DeShone Kizer dropped in an absolute dime in the fourth quarter against Texas that gave Notre Dame the lead

Heading into the 2016 college football season, when it came to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, there was one question on everyone’s minds: Who would emerge as the definitive starter under center at quarterback? Would it be Malik Zaire taking his job back or would it be DeShone Kizer?

Well, as of Sunday night, it looks like we might already have an answer to that question. The two did split time in the opener against the Texas Longhorns, and it’s definitely Kizer that’s come away looking like the best option.

Notre Dame was down 31-14 at one point in this game, but they would fight all the way back behind Kizer to take the lead in stunning fashion in Austin. In the fourth quarter, the Irish would pull ahead after this absolute dime from Kizer to running back Josh Adams.

All night in this one, Kizer has been doing all he can to show the country that he and he alone should be the starting quarterback for Notre Dame. Zaire really struggled at times, so it definitely seems as if the controversy will be over.

However, when it comes to quarterback decisions, you can never say never. Brian Kelly really seems to like Zaire, so he may very well be getting another shot in the near future as the college football season gets underway here in 2016.

But for Sunday night, this was definitely the DeShone Kizer show for Notre Dame and Kelly. Now the only question is whether or not he could help them sustain and come away with the big win on the road.
