Almost three years to the date that he was unceremoniously fired on the LAX tarmac, Lane Kiffin returned and got the last laugh on USC.

There’s being fired, and then there’s being fired. Lane Kiffin was fired by USC three years ago. After a 62-41 loss to Arizona State on September 28, 2013, Kiffin was relieved of his duties shortly after his team flew into LAX. He was pulled off the bus, and left to find his own way home at 3:14 in the morning.

People, especially people like Kiffin, don’t forget that. After being fired, Kiffin has moved on and become the offensive coordinator at Alabama. The Crimson Tide won the 2015 National Championship with Kiffin calling the plays.

Alabama opened up their 2016 season yesterday, and it went quite well. Kiffin’s offense rolled up six touchdowns, 465 total yards, and 15 first downs. Their running backs averaged over five yards per carry. So, who were they playing? Some poor directional state university?

Nope, Alabama hung 52 points on the Trojans of Southern California, and suffice to say, Lane Kiffin is feeling himself after the huge blowout. This game was never in question, and Kiffin’s offense looked unstoppable.

Kiffin’s son, Monte, poses with the game ball, and the erstwhile USC coach hashtagged it with the exact time at which he was unceremoniously dumped. You have to believe Kiffin had this game against the Trojans circled on his calendar as soon as the 2016 schedule was released. Nothing like a little extra motivation to get the best team in the country fired up for a big game against a top-20 opponent.

This tweet is vintage Kiffin. He’s going to rub some people the wrong way, but at the end of the day, he’s mostly harmless. Kiffin has plenty of personality, and surprisingly, Nick Saban is letting him have a little fun with his past.
