The 49ers have released Miller after an incident with a 70-year-old man.

After allegedly punching an elder outside of a Marriott hotel, the San Francisco 49ers tweeted that they have parted ways with FB/TE Bruce Miller. Arrested on Monday morning, it has also been reported that the old man’s son was involved in the altercation.

In his sixth season out of UCF, the former Niner will now have to look for work elsewhere. One would expect commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL to look into this matter further, resulting in a possible suspension for Miller. This was not anything San Fran hadn’t seen before with their fullback.

Back in 2015, Miller was involved in a domestic violence case with his fiancee at the time. She had said her and her husband engaged in an aggressive argument that led to shoving. The case ultimately resulted in a misdemeanor, and Miller would go on to attend counseling.

Statistically, Miller never made an impact in the Bay Area. He played in 77 games with 62 yards and a touchdown. These numbers are expected with the role Miller served. Playing a hybrid fullback and tight end position depending on the formation, his responsibilities varied.

Under former head coach Jim Harbaugh, Miller was more of a traditional blocking fullback that aided the power run game. However, with Chip Kelly as the head honcho, he was forced to become more of a tight end to better suit the offense.

Kelly’s spread offense and fullbacks really don’t go hand in hand. Now, Miller’s position change will be of no concern. He has his irresponsible and violent actions to blame for that. It should be interesting to see if the NFL has a stance on this situation and where Miller goes from here.
