Florida State running back, Dalvin Cook, had the mistake of the evening dropping the football before reaching the end zone.

As if the Florida State Seminoles weren’t having enough trouble tonight against Ole Miss, Dalvin Cook made things just a tiny bit worse.

Down 21-3 with five minutes left in the second quarter, Cook caught a pass about 15 yards from the end zone with absolutely no defenders in front of him. What happened next is something that Cook will regret for a long time:

Dalvin! What are you doing?! Rule number one in football is to hold onto the ball, right?! You bet head coach Jimbo Fisher had a couple choice words for the junior running back out of Miami. Making the situation even worse for Florida State? They were only able to come away with three points from the drive. Maaaaybe if they had come away with six points Cook would be able to sleep a little better tonight, now I’m not so sure.

This is the one time where I can confidently say this: I could have done better than that. Cook’s eyes must have been so wide looking at the end zone that he completely forgot what he was doing with his hands.

Everyone on Twitter had their own reaction to Cook’s blunder:

Cook far-and-away has looked like the best player for Florida State tonight, with the exception of that play. Even with a bonehead play like that, Fisher has absolutely no reason to take Cook out of the game.

Now we can cue up all the comparisons of Cook’s mistake. The first thing I think of is DeSean Jackson dropping the football just before running into the end zone.

So Dalvin, next time you’re looking at a ton of green grass and an end zone in front of you, lock that ball up high-and-tight and don’t you dare even consider switching hands. You’re too good of a player to have this be the only highlight people you remember you for.
