It doesn’t matter if you’re on land or water, Shane Buechele can drop you a perfect dime anywhere.
The Texas Longhorns might have found their best quarterback since Vince Young in freshman sensation Shane Buechele. After becoming the first true freshman to start at quarterback for the Longhorns in over 60 years, Buechele played an instrumental role in the Longhorns 50-47 upset win over Notre Dame. He threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns while scrambling for another touchdown. It turns out that Buechele can hit his receivers with flawless dimes no matter where they are. Even if they are on a jet ski.
Buechele had some flawless dimes last night. He nearly hit John Burt with one in the first half, but he dropped it. Burt would redeem himself in the second half with a beautiful 72 yard touchdown. Jerrod Heard caught several of Buechele’s dimes. Perhaps his best one was to his receiver Armanti Foreman.

The freshman quarterback might have John Elway to thank for that cannon arm. His father Steve Buechele is a coach for the Texas Rangers. He had a successful MLB career as a third baseman and once shared a room at Stanford with the legendary Denver Broncos quarterback. Athletes are a common theme in the Buechele family. It’s clear that Buechele inherited his father’s arm.
Buechele has done enough to earn that starting job for the Longhorns. However, Tyrone Swoopes does offer an athletic skill set that Buechele doesn’t quite have. Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong did a flawless job using both quarterbacks. Perhaps the Longhorns quarterback duo can continue their success. But moving forward, Buechele ought to see a majority of the snaps because he’s clearly something special. Texas will host UTEP for their next game.
