College Football Rankings 2016: Week 2 AP Poll winners and losers
Who are the winners and losers in the college football rankings after the release of the Week 2 AP Poll?
Week 1 of the college-football season is officially in the books, as big games and huge upsets made for one of the more memorable opening-weekend slates in recent memory. The first real AP Poll was released Tuesday, and there were more than a few surprises. Even if, as everyone knows, college football rankings don’t mean much until the playoff poll comes out.
Still, there are plenty of teams to keep an eye on — many risers in the rankings, as well as teams that plummeted.
There were upsets aplenty last weekend, with teams such as Wisconsin taking down No. 5 LSU at Lambeau Field. People knock the Big Ten all the time, but that’s a huge win for the conference over the SEC. Then there was Texas A&M, which beat Josh Rosen and darkhorse darling UCLA. Another one not a lot of people saw coming.
Texas, meanwhile, took down No. 10 Notre Dame, as it seems Charlie Strong is leading the Longhorns back to prominence.
No. 15 Houston defeated No. 3 Oklahoma at NRG Stadium, where the Cougars looked like a legit playoff team. Even some unranked upsets — like Western Michigan over Northwestern and South Alabama taking down Mississippi State — had the college-football world buzzing.
So how does the AP Poll look after Week 1, and who were the biggest climbers and droppers?
