According to a report, the New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees are close to agreeing on a brand new deal.

With the NFL regular season set to begin just days away, teams are making last ditch efforts to get certain players signed to extensions and keep them in uniform for longer. One of those players currently in need of a new deal is New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. It’s long been assumed that the veteran and the team would get something done, but as months went by, doubt started to creep in a little bit.

Perhaps that doubt is about go away. According to ProFootballTalk, a source tells them that Brees and the Saints are close to a new deal.

It was reported yesterday by Jason La Canfora, that Brees wants a $100 million deal and that he doesn’t want to negotiate in the season. It makes sense that the Saints would be rushing to get this deal done if that was the case. Right now, the Saints are in transition mode, as they try to rebuild a defense that finished last in the league.

Brees isn’t getting younger on the field, but as long as he is under center, the Saints have a chance to win games. Getting him locked up until he retires should be a top priority for the organization and it would be good to see them get this deal done.
