The Apple event isn’t the only big technology-related press event taking place on September 7.
After you’ve calmed down about a new iPhone that you probably can’t use with your nice earbuds or headphones, you’ll be ready for the next step in video games. And Sony would like to present it to you.
What the company is calling PlayStation Meeting 2016 is taking place at the PlayStation Theater (convenient, that) in Times Square in New York City. The event is open only to the press, but make no mistake about it, Sony wants the masses to see it too.
That’s because it’s expected to be the big showcase for the PlayStation Neo (or possibly PlayStation 4 Neo, though some gamers have also settled for calling it the PlayStation 4.5), a more powerful console that can handle games in 4K resolution and is better suited to high performance when combined with PlayStation VR, which just so happens to be launching in the not too distant future.
It’s also rumored that Sony may follow in the footsteps of Microsoft by rolling out a slimmed down iteration of its current machine. Call it the PlayStation 4 Slim. And there’s likely to be at least a bit of time spent on PlayStation VR too.
Games? Sure, those as well, but probably just in service of the new hardware.
You can watch PlayStation Meeting 2016 live online via a number of different outlets, but the easiest way to do it is simply to watch the live stream we’ve embedded below. the event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Eastern time / noon Pacific.
