A fan included his Venmo account on his College GameDay sign asking for beer money. He got 220 donations in the first 40 minutes.

When it comes to college football Saturdays, there’s only one thing that might eclipse the games itself, and that’s College GameDay. Whenever the ESPN crew travels to a stadium, the fan support is tremendous. There’s nothing like a college football atmosphere, and that’s especially true when the GameDay signs are out on full display.

College GameDay is always a great opportunity to see the students get creative, but Sam Crowder may have topped them all. He held up a sign that said “Hi Mom! Send Beer Money” which is a typical frat boy move, but he included his Venmo account on the bottom.

That’s a clear indication that he was looking for a donation from more than just his mom, and he received it.

Over 220 people donated to his Venmo in the first 40 minutes, and it keeps rising. It’s not just Virginia Tech and Tennessee fans pitching in, too. His page has received donations from Georgia and Alabama fans as well.

With his newfound wealth, Sam now has more than enough money to spend on beer, and whatever else he needs to enjoy the game. Since it’s going to be at Bristol Motors, a crowd of well over 150,000 is expected to be on hand. They ordered more than enough beers to handle that crowd, but with the amount of money Sam has made in the past hour, they don’t need to buy it.

With any luck, Sam might now be able to buy enough beer to distribute evenly among his section, while having plenty left over for himself. Incidents like this remind us all that nothing brings people together quite like college football.
