Houston Cougars quarterback Greg Ward Jr. will miss his team’s Week 2 game with an injury and Kyle Postma will start in his place.

The Houston Cougars had one of the most impressive performances in Week 1 with a thorough dismantling of then-No. 3 Oklahoma. Part of the reason for the team’s success last year and in Week 1 was the play of quarterback Greg Ward Jr. But the Coogs will have to do without the dual-threat star in Week 2 against Lamar.

Ward is out for the game as he recovers from a shoulder injury. The move was expected and if Houston was playing a tougher opponent, he probably would be able to play. Considering Houston is playing a team from the FCS they should have no problem beating, it’s the safe move to give him time to get healthy.

Houston will roll with Kyle Postma who makes his second career start. He should have a nice outing and Houston should be able to control the line of scrimmage and give him plenty of time to throw against Lamar.

Houston is one of the most intriguing teams to follow all season. The team from the American Athletic Conference has a legit chance to crash the College Football Playoff party if they go undefeated. They are favored in every game remaining on their schedule, so the potential is there for the playoff committee to make a tough decision.

Will a one-loss Big 12 or Pac-12 team be left out in favor of an undefeated Houston team? It’s a decision that will be discussed often between now and the end of the year. They should be in though if they run the table.

The one game that could trip them up is the Thursday night game on November 17 against Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals.
