Penn State head coach James Franklin said that Pittsburgh players clapping threw the Nittany Lions off their game.

In what was one of the better games in college football on Saturday, the Pittsburgh Panthers edged the Penn State Nittany Lions 42-39 at home. It was a huge home win for the Panthers and they celebrated in front of all of their fans. It was a tough loss for Penn State, who fell just short o the big win on the road.

After the game, James Franklin was discussing some of the tactics that Pittsburgh used to beat them. Franklin mentioned that Pittsburgh players were clapping on offense and defense, which threw off their cadences. He asked the refs it was legal and they responded that Pittsburgh was allowed to.

It was clear from watching the press conference that Franklin was not amused with the clapping. However, his players have to be ready for whatever noise there is, let alone being in a stadium full of screaming fans on the road. If it is legal, then they’ll just have to work on trying to stay focused and not allowing the clapping to get to them.

As is the case with these things usually, don’t be surprised to see opposing fans and players start to clap more from now on. If one game affected Penn State enough, other teams will be sure to try it out.
