Report: 49ers’ Anthony Davis could retire again
After coming out of retirement to play for the San Francisco 49ers again, offensive lineman Anthony Davis could be retiring again.
The regular season in the NFL officially began on Thursday night, but the full slate of games will officially begin on Sunday. The San Francisco 49ers will be playing on Monday Night Football this week, when they play host to the Los Angeles Rams. It will be their first game under Chip Kelly and they’re hoping they can be better than what others project for them. However, they could be losing a starter before the season even begins.
After coming out of retirement to return to the 49ers this year, offensive lineman Anthony Davis could be retiring again. According to Cam Inman of The Mercury News, Davis is considering retiring again. Inman states his in article that Davis was on the non-injury list in practice this week and he’s hearing from a source that Davis is considering stepping away from football again.
Davis was expected to slot in at right guard against a great Rams’ defensive line. Now, if he does indeed walk away from the team again, first-round pick Joshua Garnett would be the likely replacement. It might be a little earlier then they expected, but they feel he has the talent. The team could also go with guard Andrew Tiller.
