An eventful matchday in the Premier League saw a big shakeup at the top of the table. Here are the biggest winners from the day.
The first day of the Premier League back from the international break was certainly eventful. It started with two hopeful champions colliding in the Manchester derby, and ended with the defending champions getting humiliated at Anfield.
By scheduling the Manchester derby at 7:30 a.m. ET, the Premier League tried to make it available to as many people around the world as possible. But even if you slept through it, there were still entertaining games on display as Arsenal won late, and Liverpool blew out Leicester.
There was a big shakeup near the top of the table, and after Saturday, here’s where all the teams stand:

Many people thought Pep Guardiola needed to prove himself in the Premier League before being successful. But if this game proved anything, it’s that his managerial style is universal.
Liverpool won 4-1 over Leicester, and even though it’s their second win in four games, this is the confidence booster they needed. They looked like one of the best teams in the Premier League, and if they keep their defensive errors to a minimum, they can hang with the very best all year long.
While Leicester’s season last year was one for the history books, many didn’t think their Cinderella story would extend beyond that. But their success could inspire others, and while Hull was a relegation favorite, they find themselves in seventh. Could it be a sign of things to come?
Tottenham got a big win that vaults them up to fourth. But they played an awful Stoke team that looks like it could be relegation-bound. Still, it’s a great momentum builder heading into the Champions League.

Finally, Arsenal needed a win over Southampton to shake off their slow start. It looked like the Gunners would be headed towards a draw, but Santi Cazorla’s late penalty gave them all three points. It’s a step in the right direction, but let’s see if they can build on it.
More than anything, we were reminded of how wide open the Premier League race can be. There should be no shortage of action in the following weeks.
