Isaiah McKenzie broke loose for a huge touchdown to give the Bulldogs the lead, but Georgia’s in a fight with Nicholls State down between the hedges.
No. 9 Georgia scored on their opening possession of the game thanks to a Nick Chubb touchdown run (which will happen a lot this season).
Nicholls State answered in the second quarter and trailed the Dawgs at halftime, 10-7. NSU scored again in the third quarter to take a 14-10 lead.
Then, Isaiah McKenzie struck.
“The Human Joystick” broke loose for a 66-yard touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 20-14 lead. Georgia’s defense then answered that score quickly with a scoop-and-score to make a 26-14 lead in the third quarter after UGA’s two-pointer failed.
The play was reviewed, but was confirmed to be a fumble.

The Dawgs lead it, but this game is much closer than Las Vegas projected it would be. Per Odds Shark, Georgia was a 53.5-point favorite (!) against Nicholls State on Saturday. That’s a lot of points.
Georgia defeated North Carolina in their opener at the Georgia Dome last Saturday night and moved all the way up to No. 9 in the polls after a 33-24 victory.
Nick Chubb was outstanding for the Dawgs, but has just 22 yards on 10 carries and that touchdown against Nicholls State. It’s been a serious struggle for the Dawgs, but they now have some breathing room after the back-to-back touchdowns.
Still, it’s not the 53.5 points that Vegas had projected leading up to game time on Saturday in Athens. It’s never good to struggle at home in a winnable game. It’s even worse when you’re struggling against a FCS school.
