Vikings at Titans: 5 best fantasy options
4. Rishard Matthews
No mention of Titans’ tight end Delanie Walker? Not this week at least.
While the veteran offensive weapon led Tennessee this past season in catches (94), receiving yards (1,008) and touchdown grabs (6), he would have his hands full finding holes in a Minnesota defense that includes the likes of outside linebacker Anthony Barr and free safety Harrison Smith.
Instead, one of the new additions to the Titans wide receiving corps is free-agent pickup Rishard Matthews. Despite playing in only 11 contests a year ago, he posted career bests with 43 receptions for 662 yards (15.4 average) and four scores. Yes, 2016 fifth-round pick Tajae Sharpe has drawn a lot of attention this summer (he’ll be starting opposite Matthews) and understandably so after catching nine passes for 163 yards during the preseason.
However, it’s the former Miami Dolphins product that’s worth a play this Sunday against the Minnesota secondary. It all makes perfect sense with young wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham dealt to Philadelphia last month and veteran Andre Johnson (also in his first year with the team) in a different kind of role.
Now we are not expecting huge numbers in this contest from Titans’ second-year quarterback Marcus Mariota, who will be doing his share of handing off to new Tennessee running back DeMarco Murray (more on him later) and possibly rookie Derrick Henry. Matthews will have hands full dealing with cornerbacks Terence Newman and Xavier Rhodes. However, we expected Mariota to lean on his new toy, who will lead the team in targets in this contest and find the end zone once in this interconference affair.
