2. Butch Jones saved his job with win

After Tennessee barely escaped Appalachian State in overtime, things weren’t looking good for the Volunteers. It was doom and gloom and the outlook for the team suddenly changed. On Saturday night, things started terrible for the team again.

Then out of nowhere, the team got it going at the highest attended game ever and they got a victory that was sorely needed. Simply put, had Tennessee lost this game, after an abysmal showing last week, Butch Jones might not have survived much longer.

It’s hard to justify escaping a lesser opponent and then getting beat soundly the next week. It was trending that way early before the Volunteers figured out. Now the narrative has shifted and the team can be satisfied that they are 2-0 with a win over a quality opponent.

SEC play is still looming and that’s where Tennessee is really going to find out where they are. For now though, the team just needs to take it one game at a time and look for the improvement on the field that will make them a better team. As long as they’re undefeated, they’re just fine and Jones has nothing to worry about.
