Edinson Cavani had a glorious opportunity to put Paris Saint-Germain up 2-0 over Arsenal, but he had a miss for the ages.
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Arsenal was the best possible way to kick off the Champions League group stage. While it may have been a pasting a year ago, the two sides have gotten off to slow starts in their respective domestic campaigns. A win for either team would be just what they would need to get back on track — especially for Arsenal, who would’ve been celebrating a win like this for days.
While Edinson Cavani hasn’t been bad for PSG, he hasn’t played up to the standards he set when they first acquired him. But having now escaped Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shadow, fans are hoping he can recapture his glory days from his time at Napoli.
Cavani scored inside of the first minute to get his team off to a flying start. But with a chance to double the lead, this happened:
Arsenal are counting their blessings that Cavani missed there, because that was some schoolboy defending. Instead of facing a two-goal deficit at half-time, they are still one shot away from getting on level terms. But they have to play better than they did in the first half if they are to have any chance.

Meanwhile, Cavani’s game so far has been a microcosm of his PSG career. In one moment, he’s scoring inside of a minute, and in another, he misses open shots like this. You never know what type of game you’re getting from him, but hopefully he can move on from this mistake and score another goal. If he doesn’t, and PSG end up dropping points, you can be sure that he won’t hear the end of it from his manager.
