The Celtics star surprised a 14-year old boy by playing basketball with him at a park.

It’s not every day that an NBA star shows up at your neighborhood park to shoot around with you one-on-one. Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas took 10 minutes out of his Tuesday to play some basketball with a 14-year-old at a park near the boy’s house outside of Boston. Robbie McNulty, a high-school freshman, was practicing his shot when the Celtics’ star point guard showed up and asked if he could join.

As you might expect, McNulty couldn’t believe his luck.

“I was kind of just like dribbling with my mouth open and looking at him, maybe waiting for him to say something,” he told the Boston Globe. “He was like, ‘Can I shoot with you?’ And I’m thinking, ‘Can I shoot with you? Is this actually Isaiah Thomas?’ ”

Thomas was been in the area after attending a nearby back-to-school event with his wife. He had originally planned to play in a softball pickup game, but decided on basketball instead. However, when he arrived at the courts there was only one person in sight. It had rained the night before, and the court was a little wet.

Thomas said he enjoyed surprising the young basketball player: “I know it means a lot, because I was once in his shoes. I was once that kid at games wanting a player to just wave to me and acknowledge me, so I know that feeling and I know that’s my job now.”

When he got home, McNulty posted their selfie to Instagram. Later on, Thomas left a comment for him: “Nice rebounding for u.”
