Kevin Harlan is easily the best national play by play guy among NBA fans. He’s had some truly incredible calls throughout his career such as this now famous LeBron James dunk.

Then there’s one of my personal favorites involving Metta World Peace, and the perfect amount of pauses in between.

What makes a great commentator isn’t just the ability to call a game accurately, and add some emphasis every once in awhile, but being able to recognize a situation and adjust towards it. Harlan is one of the best at that, going into major theatrics after LeBron just dunked all over a

heavily favored Boston Celtics team. This is also why I’m an even bigger fan of the Metta World Peace call. Harlan can recognize something is about to happen, and so he adjusts his commentary to that with pauses, Metta…World…PEACE. It’s perfect.

It’s Harlan’s ability to recognize a situation, and adjust accordingly why we should all be able to look at this video of last night’s Monday Night Football game and grow an even larger appreciation for his ability on play by play.

This is hilarious. Last night’s national TV game was a boring dull affair that most would call an insult to sports in general, and Kevin Harlan saw an opportunity to liven up the game a little with some doofus that decided to make the game about himself by running on the field. I don’t endorse running on the field, as it’s the highest form of idiocy in sports, but I do endorse Harlan trying to keep his listeners entertained with some well timed comedy. Basketball can’t come any sooner, because when it does it means we’ll get to hear the best play by play man in sports again.
