3. New Orleans Saints (via CHI)

3. player. 15. There it is. At last the New Orleans Saints admit they see the end of the tunnel with Drew Brees as their quarterback. He will be 38 years old by next April. Though the team signed him to a contract extension, the reality is they’re going to have to dump his contract sooner than later. Never mind the concerns over his declining arm strength. Brees has been brilliant for a decade, one of the best all-time and a future slam dunk Hall of Famer. Even so the Saints know they can’t ride that train forever. They’ll have to switch lines eventually.
So general manager Mickey Loomis decides to make preparations. He calls friend and former colleague Ryan Pace of the Bears to swing a deal to grab the No. 3 pick ahead of the Chargers, who are another quarterback threat and select Clemson star Deshaun Watson. It’s a heavy cost for a team that still has plenty of needs but the potential payoff is huge. In terms of proven playmaking skill, Watson is tops in college football. The only reason he doesn’t go ahead of Kizer is because he’s a couple inches shorter and might not have quite the same arm strength. Everything else about his game says he can be great.
. QB. Clemson. Deshaun Watson
