31 best fan bases in all of sports
By Greg Patuto
There are a lot of great fan bases in the world of sports. Here are the top 31.
Sports are the greatest thing there is. The passion they inspire among fans from all over the world is second to none. There is nothing better than watching your team win, just as there is nothing worse than watching them lose. A win can make your day, a loss can ruin your day, or week. Or life.
Whether their favorite sport is basketball, baseball, football, hockey or soccer, fans love their teams. But some fans love their teams more than others. Who can forget the joy on the face of Red Sox fans when their team broke the curse and won their first World Series since 1918? Cavs’ fans rejoiced in their millions this past summer when LeBron James delivered on his promise and brought Cleveland their first NBA Championship. We can only wait to see how Chicago reacts if and when the Cubs finally win a World Series.
There are many sports franchises in many different sports, and some are better than others. Here, we take a look at the very best fan bases around, in all sports, taking into account class, pride and dedication to their teams.
31. Florida Gators Basketball
Florida has been relevant in college sports for quite some time now. Men’s basketball won back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007. The Gators football team captured championships in 2006 and 2008 with Tim Tebow running the show.
Florida hasn’t captured a championship in either sport since. But their competitive teams keep fans in the seats. Florida’s basketball team averages around 10,000 fans per contest. That number is down slightly from previous seasons, but it’s still impressive.
Florida also has one of the best student sections around. Florida students, nicknamed the Rowdy Reptiles, pile into their home stadiums on game day. They even have their own app, which allows members to sign up and earn points they can use to win free stuff. The prizes range from t-shirts and mugs to $150 in cash.
The Reptiles’ school spirit really comes to the fore at basketball games, where the smaller arena gives them a chance to get more involved. They have done flash mobs on multiple occasions and have even danced on court with the cheerleaders.
So, next time you’re watching a Florida basketball game, make sure to keep an eye out for the Rowdy Reptiles.
