2. Chicago Cubs
When it comes to loyalty and dedication, Chicago Cubs fans are almost second to none. They have not won a World Series since 1908 — that was 106 years ago. That is a long, long time. But the fans still have faith.
The Cubs got swept by the Mets in last year’s NLCS, but they are favorites to win it all this year. They have been the best team in baseball all year long thanks in large part to their two MVP candidates. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo have led this team all year and will continue to lead them into the playoffs. And with a pitching staff led by Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester, it’s hard not to think of the Cubs as the favorites.
The Cubs have had their fair share of bad luck. They were a very good team in the early 2000s, but could never get the job done. The Cubs most famous fan is Steve Bartman. The Bartman story is both simple and tragic. Bartman famously interfered with Moises Alou as he attempted to make a catch in foul territory. This occurred during the 8th inning of Game 6 of the 2006 NLCS, with the Cubs leading 3-0.
The Cubs need to win soon, for Bartman’s sake, and the fans are doing all they can to help. If you have watched a Cubs’ game this year, then you’ve seen how crazy the crowd is and how bad they want to win. Fans of baseball will keep an eye on the Cubs as the playoffs roll around to see if they can break the longest championship drought in history.
