The Carolina Panthers will host the San Francisco 49ers for a Week 2 game at 1:00 PM ET. Here is the point spread, over/under, moneyline, and other trends.

The Carolina Panthers (0-1) look to take out their Week 1 frustrations on the San Francisco 49ers (1-0) on Sunday, September 18th at 1:00 PM ET at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Carolina lost by one point on the road against the Denver Broncos last Thursday night. San Francisco clobbered its NFC West Los Angeles Rams, 28-0 on Monday Night Football.

Carolina will have had 10 days to prepare for its home opener against the 49ers. San Francisco only has six days to get ready for the Panthers’ strong defense in a hostile road environment. Here are the odds for this week’s game:

Odds

Point Spread: Carolina -13

Moneyline: Carolina -111, San Francisco +700

Over/Under: 48.5

This stark contrast in days of preparation has made the opening line grossly one-sided. The Panthers are giving the 49ers 13 points in Week 2, according to OddsShark.com. The moneyline is San Francisco +700 and Carolina -111.

Las Vegas believes strongly that the Panthers are going to crush the 49ers in Week 2 at Charlotte. However, that is a ton of points to leave on the table. San Francisco ran the football well in Week 1 against a good Rams defense, so take the 49ers points as long as this spread remains over double digits.

The over/under comes in at 48.5 and that seems far too high. Expect a defensive struggle in this one. San Francisco is not going to put up 28 points this week. Carolina will dictate the game’s pace through its defensive personnel. This should be a low-scoring game, so go under with this one.

Here are few trends to keep in mind with these two teams. San Francisco not only covered its 2.5-point spread in Week 1, but shutout the Rams, 28-0. Carolina was a one-point road favorite in Denver and instead lost by a point.

In this all-time head-to-head series, Carolina holds an 11-7 lead in 18 regular season games. The 49ers did beat the Panthers in their only NFC Playoff matchup to date. San Francisco won the last head-to-head meeting in the 2013 NFC Playoffs, beating Carolina 23-10 in Charlotte. However, Carolina has won the last four regular season meetings stemming back to November 14th, 2004.

Carolina hasn’t started a season 0-2 since 2013. San Francisco hasn’t begun a season 2-0 since 2012. New 49ers head coach Chip Kelly has only gone 2-0 to start an NFL season on in his four-year career. His 2014 Philadelphia Eagles began the season 3-0.

Looking at the odds and trends in this game, pick Carolina to win, but take the points with the 49ers as long as the Panthers give them at least 10. The under is the play is this one. Both teams should walk out of Sunday’s meeting at 1-1 entering Week 3.
