The Battlefield 1 open beta ran from August 31 to September 8 and over 13.2 million players tested it, which is the biggest beta in EA history.
When Battlefield 1 was first announced, fans of the series everywhere were extremely excited for the release.
In an era of first person shooters, many of these games focus a lot on the setting. For the most part, the last two Call of Duty games, Advanced Warfare and Black Ops III, and the upcoming Infinite Warfare, have all focused on a futuristic setting. That means many of these games have adopted a new style of gameplay.
The traditional aspect of these shooters was boots on the ground, war-inspired gameplay. It’s still the same concept, but there’s a lot of flying around with jetpacks and wall-running, which was a turn off for many gamers. The majority are glad that Battlefield 1 is returning to the beginning of it all.
When it was announced that a beta was releasing, fans got even more excited that they were going to be able to test out the game. When we say that millions of people played the open beta, we aren’t lying.
In a press release from EA, it was confirmed that throughout the course of nine days, over 13.2 million players participated in the open beta, which is a record breaking number. Now, the Battlefield 1 open beta is the biggest beta in EA history. To get an even better idea of how many people that is, EA released an interesting quote:
"That’s more than double the strength of the British and Ottoman Empires deployed in the Middle East during WW1."
To give you some more statistics from the beta, the class that was used the most was the assault class, which is not surprising. There were also a lot of snipers with the scout class coming in second.
Other stats include over 29.8 million melee kills, 13 million kills scored by the armored train, 23.8 million road kills, 62.2 million kills while on a horse, and the tank hunter was the most destructive elite class. To see more, check out the Battlefield website.

If it isn’t evident by now, the open beta was a smashing success. Imagine when the full game comes out. It may be the highest grossing video game of 2016. Only time will tell.
Battlefield 1 launches worldwide on October 21, 2016.
