Houston Cougars wide receiver Isaiah Johnson fumbles the football in a very weird manner that allows the Cincinnati Bearcats to recover near halftime.
The Houston Cougars entered their Thursday night road game against the Cincinnati Bearcats as the No. 6 team in the nation. Houston knocked off the Big 12’s Oklahoma Sooner in Week 1, 33-23 at NRG Stadium. The Cougars shutout the Lamar Cardinals in Week 2 to move to 2-0 on the year.
Many believed that after beating Oklahoma Houston has a great shot at going undefeated and making the College Football Playoff as a Group of 5 team. Houston still had four tough opponents on the slate in 2016, including Thursday night’s game in Cincinnati.
Up 10-7 on Cincinnati, Houston wide receiver Isaiah Johnson runs to his right on a second and 10 from the Cincinnati 33-yard line. A Bearcat defender would knock the ball loose at the Cincinnati 29-yard line.

The ball would fling back to the Cincinnati 19-yard line and the Bearcats would recover for a nice return. The Bearcats would go on to tie the game up at 10 points apiece on a 37-yard Andrew Gantz field goal, capping off a three-play drive for Cincinnati.
While Cincinnati is also 2-0 on the year, the Cougars might be on upset alert in the Queen City on Thursday night. Like Houston, Cincinnati seems to be a finalist for a Big 12 bid. The Bearcats would be an ideal geographical rival for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Also, wouldn’t the Big 12 like to have the Ohio media market in its viewership?

Should the Bearcats top the Cougars at home in this one, this would elevate Cincinnati maybe even into the AP Top 25. Houston wouldn’t fall out entirely, but Oklahoma’s loss to the Cougars in Week 1 now looks much worse. Thursday night games are always interesting. This game might go down to the wire.
