Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher is reportedly going to receive a three-year contract extension to stay with the Rams through the 2019 NFL season.

Though the Los Angeles Rams didn’t score a point against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, Los Angeles plans to extend head coach Jeff Fisher with a new three-year contract.

ESPN’s John Clayton reports that Fisher and Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers are in line to receive new deals. Last month, ESPN reported that Fisher and Rams general manager Les Snead were in the process of negotiating new deals with Rams owner Stan Kroenke.

It seems the Rams want stability in keeping Fisher through the 2019 NFL season. Fisher has been an NFL head coach for 22 seasons, but has a losing record in four-plus seasons with the Rams.

Fisher is a defense-first head coach. While his Ds with the Tennessee Titans and now with the Rams have been top-tier, his offensive schemes have become archaic in a bubble screen league.

The Rams had the worst passing offense in football in 2015. Their only redeeming players on offense are Pro Bowl running back Todd Gurley and first overall draft pick quarterback Jared Goff. With Fisher’s inability to run a modern NFL offense, news of this signing is bad news for Goff’s development as a pro passer.

Fisher is a native Angelino, having played at USC and coached the Rams defense back in 1991. However, extending Fisher for another three years takes the Rams offense back at least a decade. It seems that Kroenke is content with going 7-9 or 8-8 for the rest of the decade, as that is the type of coach Fisher has become in his 50s.

Los Angeles wants stability as an NFL franchise, but the Rams are putting all their eggs in the wrong basket in giving Fisher three more years with the franchise.
