College Football Picks Against The Spread Early September 17

It has been a rough start to the college football season for me. I have a huge hole to dig myself out of, but with 51 college football games on Saturday, I have a chance to do it!

More from College Football Odds

Sunday through Friday, I am the perfect husband.  No really, I am.  You can ask the boss a.k.a. my wife.  I help with all of the household chores, walk the dogs, cook meals, all that good stuff that women love.  Come Saturday, my wife hates me.  This is MY day.  I become one with the couch.  Just another piece of immovable furniture.  I create my own game of Bladder-Bust since I fast forward through all of the commercials.  I am almost disappointed when I have to take time out to eat or get another beer.  Why am I interested in so many games?  Other than the fact that I love college football, here is why:  I was possessed by Jimmy The Greek and Lee Corso at the same time!

In case you don’t know what I do here, I pick every college football game of the season. Against the spread. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it sounds! I take the average of the odds from all of the Vegas casinos. I then round to the nearest half. There will be no ties here. Ties are for the other football (soccer).

This contains the picks for FBS vs. FBS game only. It is too hard to get an accurate spread on teams that involve 1-AA teams.

I will assign a point value “bet” on each game, between one and five points. That way you can see just how confident I am in each pick. Look for those at the end of each line.

This is for entertainment purposes only! I cannot be responsible for you losing any of your worldly possessions (or limbs) because of my picks. These are a guideline that you can use to help you with your picks. I am a simple man. I can’t have that on my conscience.

16 of the 51 games kick off between noon and 3pm eastern time. I will pick all of those, against the spread of course, in this column. Stay tuned for the rest of my picks! I have a good feeling about this week, so let’s get going!

Ohio at (15)Tennessee(-27.5)(1): Tennessee definitely has the talent to cover this, but they have a habit of not covering lately. They looked good last week though, and Ohio let a weak Kansas team back in the game. At one point early in the second half, Kansas had more touchdowns (2) than first downs! Give me Tennessee, I guess.

Iowa State at TCU(-24.5)(3): I am not all that impressed with TCU, but Iowa State may not win a game. And yes, I realize that they play Kansas. Give me TCU.

Akron at Marshall(-17.5)(2): Really, Akron should be better than they are. They have a good coach, a good QB, and a solid receiver. Not to mention a decent running back. This is too many. Give me the Zips.

New Mexico at Rutgers(-5.5)(1): I like New Mexico’s skill players a whole lot more than anything Rutgers has. However, without Teryion Gipson, this is going to be tough for New Mexico. Their heartbreaking loss to New Mexico State last week is keeping this line down, but it may be too far down. Give me Rutgers at home.

Middle Tennessee State(-6.5) at Bowling Green(2): This line is jumping fast. Get it before it gets to 7.5, because that may be too high. Give me the Blue Raiders for under a TD though.

(2)Florida State(-1.5) at (10)Louisville(5): Don’t get me wrong, I do expect a good game, but what exactly is that Louisville ranking based on? Florida State came back from a huge deficit – with a freshman QB leading them, no less – against possibly the second best team in the SEC. The Seminoles have earned that ranking. Louisville has no answer for Dalvin Cook, and Lamar Jackson has never faced a D like this. FSU by about ten points.

Temple at Penn State(-8.5)(5): Temple was nothing short of awful against Army. The Owls have no way to stop Saquon Barkley, who is on quite a roll right now. Penn State wins big unless they try to get cute.

Kansas at Memphis(-20.5)(2): It’s not like the Jayhawks are devoid of talent, especially on defense. They just make a whole lot of mistakes, mostly on offense. I’m not quite sure Memphis is better than Ohio. Memphis lost possibly the best player they have ever had in Paxton Lynch. They haven’t been tested, and Kansas wont test them, but they only beat Southeast Missouri by 18. Give me Kansas.

Georgia State at (9)Wisconsin(-34.5)(3): This line is up a touchdown already, and could be even higher by Saturday morning. We are getting close to the territory where I have to think about this a little, but the Big Ten (14) teams are covering. Georgia State wont be able to stop any of the three Badgers running backs coming at them. Give me Wisconsin.

(25)Miami(FL)(-3.5) at Appalachian State(2): The biggest show ever to hit Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, NC is the Hurricanes. This stadium is going to be crazy, and wouldn’t you be? I don’t know if it will be enough to beat Miami, but I would bet they put a scare into them like they did Tennessee. I think this line is a few points low though. Miami by a touchdown or so.

Vanderbilt at Georgia Tech(-6.5)(3): This looks a little low. The reason Georgia Tech had trouble moving the ball is because the Eagles boast one of the better defenses in the country. Vanderbilt doesn’t. GT by a least a touchdown.

Virginia at Connecticut(-4.5)(2): UConn may be reeling after that tough loss to Navy, but they only have themselves to blame. The Huskies are improving, and they are well coached. I have to take them at home.

Idaho at Washington State(-26.5)(4): This line is all over the place. It is as high as 28, and as low as 25. I’m not sure why. I still think 28 is too low. Idaho is awful. Give me the Leaches.

Florida Atlantic at Kansas State(-24.5)(2): Wow, that’s a lot of points for a team that doesn’t really have an offense. Give me FAU, I guess.

UNLV at Central Michigan(-12.5)(3): The Chippewas had a really good game on the road last week. So did UNLV, for that matter. And yes, it feels weird saying that for a 20 point loss. Give me the Chips at home.

Fresno State at Toledo(-20.5)(2): This line is down a couple of points. Now it is likely too far down. I’m a big fan of Kareem Hunt, and Logan Woodside is looking like a solid QB. Give me Toledo.
