College Football Week 2 results against the spread.

I started the college football season in a hole, going 16-24 in week 1. Was week 2 any better? At first glance, I think so, but I only watched about half the games. That leaves quite a few that I haven’t looked closely at yet.

Here are the college football results against the spread for week 2. Winners against the spread are in bold, followed by my result.

Maryland(-10.5) at Florida International: MISS! The Terps offense is still a force to be reckoned with behind Perry Hillis.

Louisville(-14.5) at Syracuse: MISS! So much for the Orange being tough at home….

Central Michigan at Oklahoma State(-20.5): HIT! Controversy or not, I still get this one regardless. I only wish I would have went bigger on this!

North Carolina State(-5.5) at East Carolina: MISS! This was my kind of game too. I usually would take ECU in a game like this. Lesson learned. The Pirates offense is almost as good behind Philip Nelson.

Penn State at Pittsburgh(-4.5): HIT! This was a great game, but Penn State needed a furious fourth quarter to not get covered.

Central Florida at Michigan(-35.5): MISS! Show offs…..

Cincinnati(-6.5) at Purdue: HIT! Yep, easy money. Should have put five on it.

Rice at Army(-8.5): HIT! Nice to see you again, Army! We’ve missed you!

Boston College(-16.5) at Massachusetts: MISS! I guess I overestimated UMass’s defense.

Wyoming at Nebraska(-24.5): MISS! Ugh…..I had this! It was 24-17 at the end of the third quarter until Wyoming imploded in horrific fashion.

Troy at Clemson(-35.5): MISS! This was very nearly the biggest upset in college football history.

Georgia State at Air Force(-20.5): MISS! Whoops….

Utah State at USC(-15.5): HIT! I figured the Trojans just ran into a buzzsaw with Bama. They get another one of those this week.

Ohio at Kansas(-2.5): HIT! Wow, the Jayhawks just couldn’t get out of their own way. At least they made it interesting, and they do have a really nice stadium there in Lawrence.

Connecticut at Navy(-4.5): MISS! The stupid half point got me. Of course, UConn should have won this game outright anyway. Don’t they practice clock management like every other team from middle school to the pros?

Tulsa at Ohio State(-28.5): MISS! When Mother Nature unleashed hell on Columbus, the Buckeyes did the same to Tulsa.

Wake Forest at Duke(-5.5): MISS! It was a rough week for home teams, at least in the early slate.

Old Dominion at Appalachian State(-20.5): HIT! The Mountaineers look in mid-season form, but will it be enough to take down Miami?

Akron at Wisconsin(-23.5): MISS! What’s up with all these Big Ten(14) teams covering huge lines? They don’t usually to that!

Nevada at Notre Dame(-28.5): HIT! The Irish made me sweat it by going scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Kentucky at Florida(-16.5): MISS! My initial instinct was right. I set the over/under for Mark Stoops being canned at Halloween. I highly doubt he finishes the season since Kentucky is finished two games into the season.

Western Kentucky at Alabama(-28.5): MISS! The half stopped this, but really, Bama didn’t deserve to cover anyway.

SMU at Baylor(-31.5): HIT! I shouldn’t have had to be nervous about his at all! It was 6-6 at halftime, then SMU got blasted in the second half.

Ball State at Indiana(-16.5): MISS! I just want to thank the Indiana defense for giving up 17 unanswered in the fourth quarter to blow this…..

UTSA at Colorado State(-9.5): MISS! You know you’ve gone cold when you lose every freaking half…..

Middle Tennessee State at Vanderbilt(-4.5): HIT! I didn’t expect MTSU to just roll over in the second half.

Idaho at Washington(-37.5): HIT! Okay, so the Huskies only won by 45 instead of 50. Nobody’s perfect.

Florida Atlantic at Miami(FL)(-24.5): MISS! I guess I’m convinced….

Georgia Southern(-13.5) at South Alabama: MISS! If only the Jags could play every game in Starkville. They looked a hell of a lot better there than at home in Mobile.

Northern Illinois at South Florida(-14.5): MISS! Man, Quinton Flowers is going to be really good. He is going to give a lot of AAC defenses fits this year.

UTEP at Texas(-30.5): HIT! There is a good possibility that Texas is the best team in the Big 12(10).

South Carolina at Mississippi State(-7.5): MISS! World, meet Nick Fitzgerald. Nick Fitzgerald, this is the world.

Louisiana-Monroe at Oklahoma(-46.5): HIT! This was much closer than I thought it would be.

Arkansas at TCU(-7.5): MISS! Boy, the Big 12(10) certainly aren’t doing themselves any favors early on. If it weren’t for Texas, they would be absolutely awful out of conference.

Arkansas State at Auburn (-20.5): MISS! I sure wish Aubie would have told me they were going to settle on a QB, the right one by the way, before I had picked this.

Iowa State at Iowa(-16.5): MISS! I have witnessed a lot of bad Iowa State teams, but this has to be one of the worst of the last 20 years.

BYU at Utah(-3.5): HIT! This was another great one this week. I told you to enjoy the show!

Eastern Michigan at Missouri(-24.5): HIT! Lock did have a huge game. This will likely do wonders for his confidence. It doesn’t matter who the opponent was.

North Carolina(-7.5) at Illinois: HIT! Three in a row! That’s quite an achievement this year. I’m a big fan of the Illinois defense. The offense? Not so much….

Virginia Tech vs. Tennessee(-11.5): MISS! One fumble in the first quarter changed this entire game, strange as it sounds.

UNLV at UCLA(-26.5): MISS! Not impressed with the Bruins. At all.

New Mexico(-12.5) at New Mexico State: HIT! Wow, what a game this was! A great comeback at home by the Aggies!

Texas Tech at Arizona State(-1.5): MISS! This loss was not the fault of Patrick Mahomes. This TT defense may be the worst they have had in decades, and that is saying a LOT!

Washington State at Boise State(-11.5): HIT! Do moral victories still count for the Cougars?

California at San Jose State(-7.5): HIT! This was a great game. You know if someone breaks a record set by Marshall Faulk that he is doing something right. Watch a few San Diego State games. I love watching Donnel Pumphrey run!

Virginia at Oregon(-23.5): MISS! Oregon let off the gas, unfortunately…

It was another rough week. I finished 19-27, which is exactly the same amount under 50% as week 1. That puts me in a big hole at 35-51 after two weeks. I went with less confidence points overall, so hopefully I didn’t lose at many as I did in week 1.

The season totals for each point value are in parentheses:

1. 4-4 (6-8) -2
2. 6-11 (10-16) -12
3. 6-5 (14-15) -3
4. 2-4 (4-7) -12
5. 1-3 (1-6) -25

I lost 25 points this week, which was marginally better than last week’s tally of -29. I have lost nearly half of my bankroll of points that I accumulated last year. This week will be better!

I digested a couple hundred hours worth of football games this week. There are more games in week 3 since most of the 1-AA teams are falling off of the schedules. It will get better!
