The Auburn Tigers make use of a drone to deliver the game ball in their Week 3 home game against the No. 17 Texas A&M Aggies.

The future is now in college football. Southeastern engineering school Auburn University decides to use a drone to deliver the game ball in the Auburn Tigers’ Week 3 home game against the No. 17 Texas A&M Aggies.

It was a sight to see at Jordan-Hare Stadium. This iconic SEC football venue is known for having an eagle soar around the stadium as part of the War Eagle Flight. At first glance, it just looked like War Eagle was doing his thing down on The Plains, but after further inspection, that was a drone that was up in the air at Jordan-Hare.

Drones have started to become a thing in the United States these last few years. It was really only a matter of time before these remote controlled aerial devices would make their way into popular sporting events. Does this mean Auburn or any school is going to keep on doing this?

It was pretty cool to see Auburn be the first school to make use of a drone in their pre-game rituals of their intense football games. Will it help the Tigers find a way to more home victories in the SEC West?

Well, that hasn’t worked out so well here in Week 3. Texas A&M led Auburn 16-7 at halftime in their head-to-head battle here on Saturday night. The Auburn offense has been inconsistent under head coach Gus Malzahn this season.

While the defense looks much improved under new defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, it will have to be the offense that carries the Tigers this football season. They have more offensive playmakers than they have proven defensive stoppers in 2016. At least the drone is cool, so there’s always that!
