The best play in football is a large human being scoring a touchdown. Colorado leads Michigan by two touchdowns because of one and it’s great.

Colorado and Michigan haven’t played each other since meeting each other three times in the 1990’s, including their classic in 1994 that ended with a completed Kordell Stewart hail mary as time expired in one of the greatest finishes in college football history.

The Buffaloes are up to their old tricks against the Wolverines already on Saturday, but on the defensive side of the ball this time.

After Colorado struck first with a Devin Ross touchdown catch from quarterback Sefo Liufau, the Colorado defense followed suit with a score of their own.

The best part: It was of the giant human variety.

Derek McCartney’s scoop-and-score put the Buffs up 14-0 on the Wolverines in what would be one of the biggest upsets of the young season.

(And yes, McCartney is the grandson of former Colorado head coach Bill McCartney.)

Michigan has since answered with a touchdown of their own thanks to a blocked punt, but the Buffs still lead it, 14-7.

Saturday marks the first time the Buffs and Wolverines have met since 1997. After Stewart’s hail mary to beat Michigan in 1994, the Wolverines won the next two meetings in 1996 and 1997, and the series ended after three games.

Both teams come into the game unbeaten and without a real challenge in the first couple weeks of the season. Colorado has only allowed 14 points in their two wins, while Michigan given up just 17 points and have scored 114 points in their two wins.

This game’s already off to an interesting start for both teams and with what’s happened in the past between the schools, anything can happen the rest of the way.
