Miami Hurricanes running back Mark Walton didn’t want to wait long to get the ‘Canes on the board during their trip to meet Appalachian State.

The Miami Hurricanes aren’t what they used to be, but Mark Walton proved on Saturday morning that there’s still a common trend at “The U”: Speed (and lots of it).

Within the first five minutes of the Hurricanes’ first trip to Boone, N.C. to play a dangerous Appalachian State bunch that gave Tennessee all they could handle two weeks, Walton and the ‘Canes got on the board.

A word of advice: Don’t blink.

In the words of long-time Chicago White Sox play-by-play man Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, “He gone!”

Walton broke away from the initial contact at the line of scrimmage and broke free for an 80-yard touchdown run to take the crowd out of it early there in Boone.

This game is a dangerous one for the ‘Canes. Appalachian State has done nothing but get better and stronger since their colossal upset of a top-5 Michigan team nine years ago in Ann Arbor. It’s an early kickoff for one, and two, it’s never easy to win on the road in college football no matter who you’re playing.

Miami did come into the game as the favorite, but it’s not a game that many were confident about picking on Saturday. It’s a tricky game to gauge, especially with the game being hosted by the Mountaineers.

But, Walton wasted little time making an impact and getting his Hurricanes out in front early on a big play. That’s a huge confidence booster for the ‘Canes, who actually entered the Associated Press Top-25 poll this week at No. 25. A win on Saturday gets Miami to 3-0; a mark they haven’t reached since 2013 before losing to in-state rival Florida State.
