Michael Vick compares Lamar Jackson to himself
By David Rouben
Lamar Jackson’s dual-threat ability is drawing praise from everyone around the nation, including the man most people have compared him to, Michael Vick.
Heading into the season, Deshaun Watson was the quarterback that everyone thought was most likely to win the Heisman. But while he and Clemson have looked underwhelming so far, Lamar Jackson and Louisville have blown away their opponents. Through two games, Jackson has accumulated 13 touchdowns, while everyone has praised his dual-threat ability. Seven of his touchdowns have come through the air, while six have come on the ground.
We haven’t seen any quarterback do this in college since Michael Vick at Virginia Tech. And when Lamar Jackson was brought up, Vick had some tremendous praise for him, via the Courier-Journal:
"Everything that you see him doing, you (saw) me do. Am I correct? He’s throwing touchdowns. You’re getting them through the air; you’re getting them on the ground. He’s making guys miss. He’s elusive. That’s everything I was when I was at Virginia Tech. And I was able to put together games where I was productive, and we won.I think he’s got everything that it takes to develop into a great quarterback. That’s essential for any team these days, and to be in the system that he’s in, Bobby Petrino has really taken advantage of his strengths and put him in positions where he can excel."
As it stands, Lamar Jackson is second in the FBS in total offense and has been more productive than some schools altogether. It’s easy to see why people are comparing him to Michael Vick, as his hurdle touchdown against Syracuse was almost an exact replica of what Vick once did to James Madison:
Lamar Jackson admitted that he was a fan of Vick’s growing up, meaning that he likely built his game around him. With that in mind, he must be over the moon that he has been given such big praise from his idol. While the two haven’t met yet, Vick hopes to do so soon.
Despite all the attention Jackson has received, all eyes will be on him against Florida State. They have their own explosive quarterback in Deondre Francois, and with the College GameDay crew there, the battle between those two is sure to be one of the most-watched during College Football Week 3.

Jackson knows that, for as good as he’s been so far, it’ll mean nothing if he turns in a dud against Florida State. We all remember how quickly Leonard Fournette fell out of Heisman contention last year once he ran into Alabama’s front seven. With Florida State representing Jackson’s toughest test yet, he will surely do everything in his power to make sure he and his team come out on top.
