Michigan is trying to avoid any replay of 1994 and a blocked punt against Colorado returned for a touchdown will certainly help matters.

After a scoop-and-score from the Colorado defense, the Buffaloes led the Michigan Wolverines in the first quarter, 14-0.

You could hear a pin drop inside Michigan Stadium after the Buffs jumped out to a two-score lead. But, the tide turned rather quickly for the Wolverines and, no, it wasn’t because of all-world athlete Jabrill Peppers.

Although Peppers was on the field to receive the punt, the Michigan special teams got the Wolverines right back in the ballgame with a blocked punt and a score to trim the lead in half.

And yes, Michael Jocz not only blocked the punt that led to Grant Perry taking in into the endzone, he blocked that kick with his head. They do always say to use your head while playing sports and Jocz did just that.

There’s one problem for Michigan after their momentum-changing play: They just gave up another touchdown and now trail Colorado, 21-7, after a 10-play, 67-yard drive that resulted in another Buffs touchdown to extend the lead back out to 14 points.

It might be too early to sound the upset alert, but the Wolverines are certainly in a big hole early against the Buffaloes. Michigan opens conference play next week as a part of five straight home games to open the season, but a loss on Saturday would throw a huge wrench in their goal of a Big Ten title and a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Michigan has the schedule to make the semifinals, but avoiding traps like this meeting with Colorado is going to be key throughout the year before they meet teams like in-state rival Michigan State and hated rival Ohio State to close out the regular season.
