The Penn State Nittany Lions took on Temple on Saturday, and while most of the talk was about Joe Paterno, Mike Gesicki had a highlight reel catch.

The Penn State Nittany Lions paid tribute to their former coach Joe Paterno on Saturday, as they celebrated the 50th anniversary of his first game. Whether or not he should have been celebrated at all is definitely up for debate, as he was the head coach when former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was abusing children. Some have said he knew, but a dead man cannot defend himself.

When the ball was actually kicked off for the game, the 2016 Nittany Lions got down to business. Coming off a tough loss against the Pittsburgh Panthers last week, the Lions were looking to get back on the right track. Playing against a Temple team that is not up their level in 2016, Penn State took control of the game early.

Penn State jumped out to a 7-0 lead against the Owls, as quarterback Trace McSorley hit Chris Godwin for a 52-yard TD early in the first quarter. The Nittany Lions would head into the locker room for halftime with a 21-10 lead, after Temple kicker Austin Jones hit a 45-yarder with under a minute left to close the gap.

In the third quarter, Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki channeled his inner Odell Beckham Jr. With his team up 21-10 Gesicki made a fingertip catch near the left sideline while being closely covered. It was an incredible catch, and it put Penn State in position to score. Take a look below at the play below.

Penn State had to settle for a field goal on the drive, and has since let Temple creep back into the game.

The two teams will head into the fourth quarter with the Nittany Lions up 24-17. This one should go down to the wire, as Temple has done a nice job battling back after an early deficit.
