Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Tommy Armstrong, Jr. gives his team a late fourth quarter lead on an huge 34-yard touchdown run over the Oregon Ducks.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers had themselves a tough Week 3 opponent when the Cornhuskers welcomed the No. 22 Oregon Ducks to Lincoln on Saturday afternoon. Nebraska had an impressive 2-0 start to its 2016 NCAA, but then so did the Ducks of the Pac-12.
This evenly matched battle in Lincoln went back and forth all Saturday afternoon. Down 32-28 to the Ducks late, quarterback Tommy Armstrong, Jr. calls his own number on second and eight from the Ducks’ 34-yard line.
Armstrong would scamper into the Ducks’ end zone to put Nebraska up for good with an impressive 34-yard paydirt. After a successful point after attempt, Nebraska would seize control of the game with a 35-32 score and would never look back.
This win over the Ducks probably catapults the Cornhuskers into the AP Top 25 after moving to 3-0 on the young season. With Big Ten West rival Iowa falling at home 23-21 to North Dakota State, the Cornhuskers are very much in contention to win its Big Ten division.
Nebraska might be a team of destiny, playing a unified brand of football for head coach Mike Riley in memory of the team’s late punter Sam Foltz. Foltz tragically died in an automobile crash early this summer. Nebraska has been impressive on the gridiron in its three games without its former punter.

The Cornhuskers have done a better job of putting up points than any team in the Big Ten West in the early part of the season. Should Nebraska’s defense hold true against rival Wisconsin, the Cornhuskers make a very compelling case to win the Big Ten West outright in 2016. With great play from its veteran quarterback Armstrong, it’ll be hard to beat the Cornhuskers in Lincoln this fall.
