College Football Rankings 2016: Week 4 AP Poll winners and losers
Week 4 of the college football rankings have been released, so who are the winners and losers?
Another week of the college football season is in the books and there may be a much better idea of who the real contenders and pretenders are. The college football rankings for Week 4 have been released and there are some true winners as well as sore losers to take note of.
Unlike Week 2 of action, Week 3 actually featured a number of must-see matchups. Alabama, the No. 1 ranked team in the land, traveled to Mississippi to take on a pesky Ole Miss team that has had the Crimson Tide’s number for the past two years. Looking to avoid a third straight loss to the Rebels, Nick Saban and the Tide made a miraculous comeback from down 24-3 to win.
Alabama proved just why it is the No. 1 team in college football while Ole Miss showed its peskiness in the rivalry game yet again.
Ohio State and Oklahoma battled it out as well. The Buckeyes hit the road to take on last year’s College Football Playoff invitee and they won, proving they’re the cream of the crop in the Big Ten. Michigan State also showed Big Ten prominence with a nice road win against No. 18 Notre Dame.
One of the biggest shocks of the week had to be No. 10 Louisville beating up on the second-ranked Seminoles of Florida State. The game ended 63-20 and Lamar Jackson of the Cardinals has shown why he’s the leader for the Heisman Trophy.
With the Week 4 AP Poll rankings out, let’s take a look at the biggest winners and losers.
Winner: Louisville Cardinals (No. 10 up to No. 3)
How can you not think of the Cardinals as a winner this week? Going from No. 10 in the AP Poll all the way to No. 3, Louisville is the hottest team in college football right now.
After beating up on Syracuse in Week 2, a matchup with second-ranked Florida State coming to town loomed. Not many people were sure what the Cardinals truly brought to the table. They had played, and blown out, Charlotte and Syracuse to start the year, but the Seminoles presented a much tougher test.
Lamar Jackson had to put up career numbers like he did against the Orange the week before in order for the Cardinals to emerge victorious at home. Well, he didn’t need to have the best game of his career, but he did have himself one heck of a performance.
The kid who Mike Vick referred to as “better than me when I was at Virginia Tech” finished with 216 passing yards and a touchdown on 13-of-20 completions as well as 146 rushing yards and four more scores.
Louisville went on to win big, taking a 63-10 lead in the fourth quarter but finishing with a 63-20 victory over the No. 2 team in college football.
Rising up in the polls only makes sense for the Cardinals.
