Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert has released a rap song that offers support for Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest.

Those are some of the lyrics of Iman Shumpert’s newest rap track, which he released on Soundcloud. Shumpert’s latest song is called “His Story.”  It touches on several topics including his arrest, his fiancé, and of course, 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. You can watch the video here.

Shumpert is perhaps best known for his flat top hair cut (or more recently, a bun that faces the wrong way). But you might not know that fancies himself a rapper as well as a hair stylist. His most recent track may not get him signed by a record label, but it certainly will get him some attention as he weighs in lyrically on the Kaepernick controversy.

Shumpert is in good company, though. Far more famous musicians have given their opinions on this topic recently as well. These include Lil Wayne and Kid Rock. In an interview with Skip Bayless on September 14, Lil Wayne chose not to speak on the Kaepernick situation. However, he did give comments on race relations in general. And Kid Rock felt the need to pause one of his shows at Fenway Park in Boston to give his opinion. Mid-song, he shouted, “Man, f**k Colin Kaepernick!” Talk about strong language.

Shumpert’s lyrics may not change the public sentiment one way or another. But they definitely are an interesting way to give some input on the subject. It will be interesting to see whether the Cavs bench is standing or kneeling for their regular season opener against the Knicks on October 25.
