The Texas Longhorns lost their first game of the season on Saturday night, but it didn’t come without controversy

After starting the season with a huge win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, it looked like everything might be smooth sailing for the Texas Longhorns for a bit. Well, we found out here in Week 3 that would not be the case, as they dropped their first game of the year. However, it didn’t come without some controversy.

Texas and the California Golden Bears gave us quite the shootout to end the day on Saturday, trading scores back and forth. We knew that we were probably in for a wild end to this one, but we just didn’t know how wild it would be.

After an inexplicable punt as they were down 50-43 with time running out, the Texas defense broke down and Cal running back Vic Enwere broke through the middle and it looked as if he was on his way to a long dagger run to put this one to bed. However, as we’d come to find out, Enwere dropped the ball before crossing the goal line.

First off, here’s a quick PSA: STOP DROPPING THE BALL BEFORE YOU CROSS THE GOAL LINE!

Okay, with that out of the way, where things got really sketchy was the explanation as to why Cal was able to retain possession at the one-yard line. After the play was reviewed, it was determined that there was no “immediate recovery” of the football. Yet, when you watch the video above, you can clearly see a Texas player pick the ball up — well, kinda immediately.

As head-scratching as this whole situation is, the fact of the matter is that it will go on the record as a loss for Texas.

Basically, Charlie Strong is gonna be mighty angry.
