Defensive Player of the Week: Georgia DB Quincy Mauger

The No. 16 Georgia Bulldogs got their first SEC win of the season on Saturday night against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia, 28-27. This was head coach Kirby Smart’s first SEC win and his first road win, as Georgia moved to 3-0 on the year.

While true freshman quarterback Jacob Eason and junior wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie delivered the late-game heroics for the Dawgs, none of that would have been possible without the stellar play of senior defensive back Quincy Mauger.

Mauger had three tackles and two huge interceptions of Tigers quarterback Drew Lock. His second pick saved a touchdown for Georgia, as Mauger leapt in front of Lock’s target in the end zone for an impressive goal line interception.

It was a play that only veteran defensive backs could have made. Mauger plays in a deep Georgia secondary with the likes of Dominick Sanders, Aaron Davis, Maurice Smith, and Juwan Briscoe, but it was Mauger who saved Georgia from what looked like a certain loss on the road in Columbia.
