Adrian Peterson Injury Update: Vikings RB feared out for season?
Adrian Peterson could be out for the rest of the regular season.
The Minnesota Vikings might have won their Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers, but they paid a hefty price.
Star running back Adrian Peterson suffered a knee injury during the game and it didn’t look good at all. He has a torn meniscus and could be out for the rest of the season.
Furthermore, his injury is worse than initially thought, according to Adam Schefter.
Update: According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the report from Schefter is not accurate. He reports Peterson doesn’t have a torn LCL and the focus is on the meniscus.
This could be the last season for Peterson in Minnesota. He’s on the wrong side of 30 years old and he has a lot of wear and tear on his body. Running backs have a remarkably short lifespan in the NFL and few teams choose to spend a lot of money on them. Many adopt the strategy of getting rid of them once they get expensive and replenish their depth through the draft.

A torn meniscus would keep him out until roughly December. Peterson’s body heals quickly, as his quick return from a previous serious knee injury proved. However, even for Peterson, a torn meniscus could keep him out for the rest of the season. He could, however, return for the playoffs.
Peterson could decide to retire. He has made a lot of money in his career. Peterson is also likely looking at how previous running backs are looking right now. His knee wasn’t in the best shape, to begin with following an ACL tear several years ago. However, Peterson is a very competitive individual. He likely doesn’t want to go out the way that he did. Peterson would likely love to leave on his own terms rather than due to an injury.
