The Baltimore Orioles honored longtime enemy David Ortiz in a very unique fashion by giving him a broken dugout phone.

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has been a thorn in the side of the Baltimore Orioles for most of his career. With Big Papi retiring after this season, the Orioles have to be a bit happy they won’t be dealing with him any longer.

Ortiz has had a lot of memories at Camden Yards and the Orioles honored one of them by giving him a broken dugout phone as a retirement present.

In case you didn’t get it, it’s an inside joke. Ortiz broke one of the Orioles’ dugout phones in 2013 after losing his mind following a questionable call by the umpire.

The Red Sox’s designated hitter took it in stride and even found it hilarious. Orioles center fielder and friend Adam Jones presented it to him. Along with the phone, the Orioles also donated $10,000 in Ortiz’s name to help children in the Dominican Republic.

Ortiz has done a lot of damage against the Orioles in his career. He has hit 55 home runs against them, his second most against any team. The only team he has more home runs against in his career is the Toronto Blue Jays (61). Ortiz ranks third in most home runs hit against the Orioles since they moved to Baltimore. Only Alex Rodriguez and Harmon Killebrew have hit more against them than Ortiz.

Many teams will be happy to never play against Ortiz ever again. He has 176 RBI and a .902 OPS entering his final game against the Orioles on Thursday, so it’s safe to say that the Orioles are one of those teams happy to never face him again. But before they parted ways, the Orioles gave him one of the most creative retirement gifts of all-time. More teams should subtly troll opponents with their retirement gifts.
