Identifying the 10 best bets against the spread for Week 4 of the college football season.

Week 3 of the college football season was, well, weird and that isn’t a surprise since that kind of weekend often transpires over the course of a campaign. We managed to (almost) break even despite an ugly early window and, for the year, we are still in the black. With that in mind, let’s see where we stand against the spread after a 30-pick sample.

  • Last Week: 4-5-1
  • Season: 17-12-1

Now, let’s get it going with Week 4 picks, as we look to fade the public in an effort to provide you with winning selections.

Utah (-2.5) over USC

Let’s get weird on a Friday night. Utah is, um, better than USC and the public hasn’t figured that out yet. This line should be larger than 3, and while it is now sitting at 3 in some spots, not everyone has caught on to this point. The Utes are a veteran squad and the Trojans are breaking in a new quarterback in a weird spot. Take the (small) favorite.

Wisconsin (+5.5) over Michigan State

This is a beautiful contrarian spot. Wisconsin looked awful in barely topping Georgia State a week ago and Michigan State cruised past Notre Dame in a true road game. The Badgers would have been 3-point underdogs at most just a week ago, and I’ll gladly take the extra 2.5 points. It is also the sharp side, with the line dipping despite public support in the other direction. Fade the public, folks.
