Detroit Pistons Fantasy Basketball Preview
Can Stan Van Gundy get the Pistons back into the playoffs for the second year in a row, and who are the Pistons fantasy basketball options you need to know for 2016-17?
The Pistons gave control of their team to coach and president Stan Van Gundy before the 2014-15 season, and he got them back to the playoffs last season after just one year in control. Like during his time in Orlando, SVG has one of the best big men in the game, and there are some nice pieces around him as well. Detroit will look to get back to the playoffs after earning the eight-seed and a first-round exit last year. They have some good young stars, so check out the Pistons fantasy basketball outlook on the following slides to see who will have a chance to step up.
Leading up to the tipoff of the regular season, we’ll go through each of the teams and take a look at the fantasy outlook of their leu players for this season. Yesterday we started our series with a look at the Western Conference Champion Golden State Warriors. Be sure to check back on the fantasy basketball hub for more previews and my top 250 rankings as we get closer to the season. Once the season tips off, check out our rankings updates, player injury news, waiver wire pickup advice, and of course our DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy basketball picks.
Offseason Recap
The Pistons don’t want to end up with the Cavs in the first round again, so they’ll need to improve on last year’s eighth-place finish in the Eastern Conference. They added some nice extra pieces to mix in around their young corps adding Cameron Bairston, Jon Leuer, Boban Marjanovic, and Ash Smith. They drafted Henry Ellenson in the first round as well and only lost Spencer Dinwiddie, Jodie Meeks, and Anthony Tolliver who were only role players last season. From night-to-night the Pistons are sometimes inconsistent, but they’re definitely one of the teams in the East that is on the rise as they try to chase down the Cavaliers.
The starting 5 for the Pistons should be the same as at the end of last year’s run with Reggie Jackson and Kentvaious Caldwell-Pope in the backcourt, Marcus Morris and Tobias Harris at the forwards, and Andre Drummond in the middle. The continued growth of Drummond and the solid complement of players around him make the Pistons fantasy basketball outlook bright heading into the year.
In today’s Pistons fantasy basketball preview, we’ll take a look at each of the starters and some of the meaningful bench options. I’ll tell you roughly where each option is going in fantasy drafts at this point (ADP-average draft position) and whether I think they’ll outperform that draft slot or end up a disappointment. We’ll start in the backcourt with the sometimes-streaky point guard Reggie Jackson.
