College Football Picks Against The Spread Early September 24

It has been a rough start to the college football season for me. I have a huge hole to dig myself out of, but with 48 college football games on Saturday, I have a chance to do it!

More from College Football Odds

Sunday through Friday, I am the perfect husband.  No really, I am.  You can ask the boss a.k.a. my wife.  I help with all of the household chores, walk the dogs, cook meals, all that good stuff that women love.  Come Saturday, my wife hates me.  This is MY day.  I become one with the couch.  Just another piece of immovable furniture. Why am I interested in so many games?  Other than the fact that I love college football, here is why:  I was possessed by Jimmy The Greek and Lee Corso at the same time!

In case you don’t know what I do here, I pick every college football game of the season. Against the spread. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it sounds! I take the average of the odds from all of the Vegas casinos. I then round to the nearest half. There will be no ties here. Ties are for the other football (soccer).

This contains the picks for FBS vs. FBS game only. It is too hard to get an accurate spread on teams that involve 1-AA teams.

I will assign a point value “bet” on each game, between one and five points. That way you can see just how confident I am in each pick. Look for those at the end of each line.

This is for entertainment purposes only! I cannot be responsible for you losing any of your worldly possessions (or limbs) because of my picks. These are a guideline that you can use to help you with your picks. I am a simple man. I can’t have that on my conscience.

12 of the 48 games kick off between noon and 3pm eastern time. I will pick all of those, against the spread of course, in this column. Stay tuned for the rest of my picks! I have a good feeling about this week, so let’s get going!

Kent State at (1)Alabama(-43.5)(1): Nick Saban wanted to coach at his alma mater before he took the Michigan State job. They told him no. This is his revenge. Roll Tide!

(12)Georgia at (23)Mississippi(-7.5)(3): This line is up five points already, but should stabilize here. I really don’t like that half. Ole Miss has not shown they can close out a game. Of course, letting Alabama and Florida State come back on you is one thing. Georgia without a consistent passing game is something very different. Give me Ole Miss.

Nevada at Purdue(-5.5)(4): I saw James Butler, now I’m a believer. Nevada straight up.

San Jose State at Iowa State(-6.5)(2): Ugh. Can Iowa State beat anyone by a touchdown? If Allen Lazard had a QB that could get him the ball, I promise you he would be a well known name. Give me Iowa State.

Charlotte at Temple(-27.5)(1): The two truths early in the season have been Charlotte getting covered and Army covering. I will take Temple, but I have zero confidence in them actually scoring enough to do it.

Iowa(-14.5) at Rutgers(5): Iowa is getting a bad rap for losing to FCS North Dakota State. Well, the Bison have won six straight against FBS schools, and five straight National Championships at the FCS level. They would be in the top half of any conference in the country, even in the SEC. This line is down way too far because the public perceives that as a bad loss. It wasn’t. Hawkeyes win BIG.

(13)Florida State(-5.5) at South Florida(5): Yes, Quinton Flowers will likely give the Seminoles fits, but he doesn’t have near the talent around him that Louisville has around Lamar Jackson. Not to mention that USF doesn’t have much to speak of on defense. Just the fact that this line is schizophrenic gives me a lot of confidence in Florida State. It opened low, and has jumped to 7.5 in places, but is still as low as four. The Seminoles for anything under a TD is easy money.

Colorado State at Minnesota(-16.5)(2): The Gophers will have Shannon Brooks and all of their starting linebackers in this game. The Rams came close to pulling the upset in Fort Collins a couple of years ago, but I just don’t see it here. Give me Minnesota.

(11)Wisconsin at (8)Michigan State(-3.5)(5): Why in the world is this line falling? Wisconsin is starting a freshman QB (who is admittedly better than the senior) who pulled out a win against – gulp – Georgia State, they are on the road, and they may be without star RB Corey Clement. The Wisconsin defense is solid, but they can only do so much. Sparty by about a dozen.

East Carolina at Virginia Tech(-12.5)(3): I don’t expect the Pirates to win outright in Blacksburg again, but I do expect the final to be closer to where this line started (-7). ECU keeps it close behind Philip Nelson. Give me ECU.

Central Michigan(-3.5) at Virginia(3): Call me crazy, but this looks low. Chippewas by at least a touchdown.

Syracuse at Connecticut(-2.5)(3): It always makes me nervous when a line drops like this. Is it based on something, or just the Syracuse name? At any rate, I think this is too low now. Huskies by a field goal…at least.

I know, I know. Am I crazy? Putting three five pointers out there in the first set of games. Hey, I’ve got ground to make up, and I feel strongly about these. I’m not superstitious enough to get antsy about how many of a certain amount of point wagers I have or not. Stay tuned for the rest of the picks!
